301284 v.3 Master of Clinical Cytogenetics
MClinCytogen(Curtin)
Introduction
The program is a collaboration between the cytogenetics profession and the University. It will emphasise laboratory skills as well as theoretical knowledge. Cytogenetics impinges on many other areas - haematology, cytology, histopathy, psychology, nursing, and medicine.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A bachelor of science degree or equivalent in a relevant area and current employment in a Cytogenetics laboratory.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is only available on a part-time basis over three years. All students who enrol in this course must be employed in a Cytogenetics laboratory.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Cytogentics (exit only) may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.
Course Organisation
The course is designed in modular form. It is equivalent to the three (3) semesters Masters programs but because of the emphasis on laboratory acquired knowledge and skills, it will be conducted on a part-time basis over a three year period. There are a total of ten units - some are compulsory and several optional.
Professional Recognition
Currently being negotiated.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
