This course will provide opportunities for the students to obtain further postgraduate specialist knowledge in the area of aquatic resources with the emphasis on interactions within aquatic ecosystems as well as management of fisheries resources. This degree will complement existing master degrees by research in the related areas and help meet a demand, especially from international students, many of whom opt for postgraduate degrees by coursework. The learning model will enable students to gain skills that will help them to assume leadership roles within the resource management sector.
Completion of an honours degree from an approved institution. Alternatively, admission may be gained by the completion of a relevant postgraduate diploma or equivalent, to a satisfactory standard. Students will need to demonstrate that they possess a background in research methodology. If this is not met, they will be required to complete an appropriate research methodology unit. Students may be expected to complete appropriate bridging units in areas relevant to the research topic.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This course is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
This course consists of three semesters of coursework, which includes subjects relevant to aquatic and fisheries resources and their management, and one semester of a research project in fisheries management.
Graduates will find employment at a managerial level in government agencies responsible for fisheries and environmental management and in private companies whose operations involve utilising freshwater and marine resources.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
