Introduction

This course combines the financial and economic resource sector focus of the Master program in Mineral Economics with the more general management and business emphasis of Curtin's Master of Business Administration program. It seeks to equip graduates with a range of analytical and managerial skills that are suitable for senior management and decision making roles in mining and energy companies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A four-year undergraduate degree, or its equivalent from a recognised university, and three years work experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is equivalent to two and a quarter years of full-time or equivalent part-time study in semester, trimesters and flexible package formats. Normal entry is at the beginning of the calendar year but mid-year entry is also possible.

Intermediate Awards 1

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:

Course Organisation

Units in the Master of Science (Mineral Economics) program are typically available over three-week periods in four and eight day modular blocks. Units in the Master of Business Administration are available in semester, trimester and flexible package formats. Students select four half units (12.5 credits) from the Western Australian School of Mines and one unit from the Graduate School of Business.

Additional Course Expenses

Student may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.

Prospective students intending to commence this course from 2005 should consult Western Australian School of Mines to discuss possible changes to course completion requirements. Contact hours indicated reflect that Western Australian School of Mines units are taught in an intensive block format.
