Teaching continues to be a valued and sought after profession in all countries of the world. Curtin provides a high quality and well-regarded undergraduate course for beginning primary school teachers that is recognised both nationally and internationally as a teaching qualification. During the course, there are opportunities for international internship, 'country' field experience, and an honours pathway. The Department of Education has highly qualified and experienced staff who provide a vibrant and contemporary learning environment. Graduates of this course will be employable as primary school teachers in all states of Australia and countries with comparable education systems such as Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
One TEE Mathematics.
STAT elements considered are E and V and Q. Applicants for this course should refer to the Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.
The Department of Education requires all Primary Education students to pass a literacy and numeracy competency test in the first year of the degree. These tests comprise spelling, essay writing, and knowledge of mathematics content appropriate to primaryaged children.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This course is four years full-time study.
This course includes core studies including Professional Practice units and optional unit studies. Core studies are undertaken concurrently with optional units and University electives. Units cater for the different needs of primary students. In consultation with a course adviser, students select sequenced pathways designed to support and enrich individual knowledge and skills. Students are encouraged, where possible, to undertake electives in place of optional units from other areas of the University. In the third year students are selected for the honours program or continue with the standard course stream.
This course is recognised nationally as an initial pre-service teaching qualification.
Graduates are qualified to seek employment in the state and independent systems of education. Some also seek employment in alternative settings and related industries.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
