303800 v.2 Bachelor of Science (Environmental Biology), Bachelor of Social Science (Geography)
BSc(Curtin), BSocSc(Curtin)
Course CRICOS Code: 038886K
Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 4 Years
Introduction
This double degree provides graduates with a broad but integrated background in biology and social sciences by focusing on a range of human issues relating to environmental and land management. It equips graduates with the technical competencies and analytical skills to find employment in a variety of government, educational, research and business contexts.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
At least one TEE science subject. Applicable Mathematics desirable.
Specific Requirements
STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree. Social sciences units are offered jointly at second and third year levels. Students who have successfully completed a unit at one year level may not enrol in that unit at the other year level. For example, a student who has completed Geography 211 may not enrol in Geography 311. Students must undertake half of the course in social science units. These must comprise either a social science major, second social science major or a social science minor plus social science elective units as required. Electives may include additional geography units. In each semester/year, students are required to achieve a balanced enrolment in both environmental biology and social science components of their course.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the Australian Institute of Biology and the Environmental Institute of Australia. Full membership becomes possible for graduates with honours or pass degrees, respectively, after three or four years of professional practice.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
