Syllabus: |
Eucaryotic and prokaryotic cells - introduction to micro-organisms, molecular biochemistry, intercellular communication, structure and function of nucleic acids. Inborn errors of metabolism, chromosomal disorders and teratogenesis. Infestations of the skin, gastrointestinal tract and malaria. Comparative muscle - cardiac skeletal and smooth muscle. Nervous systems - nerve metabolism, cholinergic and adrenergic mechanisms other transmitter substances and synaptic transmission. Inflammation and trauma. Cardiovascular system - regulatory mechanisms and their therapeutic implications, pacemaker tissue, arrhythmias, drug effects on cardiac metabolism, heart and special circulatory disorders and oedema. Kidney physiology - electrolyte balance, diuresis, secretion and reabsorption. Renal pH regulation. |
