Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A bachelors degree, or equivalent qualification, from a recognised institution. The selection of a teaching specialisation is based on the content studied in the bachelor degree.
Specific Requirements
Applicants for this course should refer to the Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for advanced standing are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is of one year full-time study, and part-time study is possible on a limited basis.
Course Organisation
The units are drawn from curriculum, foundation and teaching studies. Because secondary school teachers are usually employed to teach more than one school subject, it is a requirement that students undertake a minor study in a second curriculum area. The units are scheduled over two semesters in sequence. A total of ten weeks field experience is undertaken and consists of supervised teaching segments and teaching assignments. There is also additional experience in schools in connection with academic units.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
Special Note
Applications to be made to the - Tertiary Institutions Service Centre, PO Box 363, Nedlands WA 6009. Overseas studens apply directly to Curtin's International Office.
