132410 v.4 Bachelor of Science (Chemistry), Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)BSc(Curtin), BSc(Curtin) IntroductionThis double degree program provides graduates with a solid background in the principles and practices of computer science and chemistry. The combination of the two degrees prepares students for a range of employment opportunities that require computing and technological skills combined with a sound knowledge of chemical sciences. Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesApplicable Mathematics or Calculus and Chemistry. Physics desirable. Well performed candidates without some of these subjects may be required to complete special course units as required. Specific RequirementsThe STAT is not acceptable for entry to this course. NoteIn certain cases, the need to complete special units may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course. Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees. Recognition of Prior LearningApplications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Duration and AvailabilityThe course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Course OrganisationStudents enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to the single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree. Professional RecognitionGraduates from this program meet the requirements for professional level accreditation of the Australian Computer Society. The Royal Australian Chemical Institute recognises the course as fulfilling the academic requirements for graduate membership. On obtaining the necessary experience graduates will be admitted to membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Additional Course ExpensesStudents may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
Availability
The information displayed above refers to study periods and locations where the course is available for first time entry. Students are normally only offered or admitted to a course once. *The course itself may not be available either solely internally or externally but individual units may be offered in either or both of those modes. Prospective students should contact the Course Coordinator for further information.
