Introduction

Designed for students who have a desire to understand the basics of electronic business. This program focuses on the use, management and application of computing and communications, and provides the basic knowledge and skills to use these technologies tofacilitate or enable business processes - in particular those processes involving local, regional and global information exchange between individuals, and within and between groups or organisations. Students will learn both managerial and practical skills pertinent to electronic business.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Entrance requirements are a pass grade in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a computing-related or logistics discipline. No relevant Information Systems or Information Technology experience is necessary for entry to this program.

Recognition of Prior Learning

No recognition of prior learning will be given, although units may be substituted at the School's discretion. Other units may be approved by the Manager Postgraduate Programs.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course consists of four units of study each carrying a weighting of 25 credits, totalling 100 credits.The core areas studied include managing information systems projects and risks, enterprise network infrastructure, problem solving, organisational behaviour and collaborative technologies. It is the first stage (four units) of the Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic Business.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Graduates generally find employment in teams involved in the design and development of Information Technology systems.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
