304354 v.2 Graduate Certificate in Vocational Education and Training in Schools

GradCertVETS(Curtin)

Introduction

This course is offered as specialist in-service training to Vocational Educational and Training (VET) teachers working in the post compulsory program in secondary schools. National and state initiatives are promoting emphasis on the development of vocational education and training programs in post-compulsory schooling. The aim is to make better provision for the 70 per cent of students who do not proceed to tertiary education.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A four year education degree or equivalent, with at least three years employment service. It is desirable that applicants are in full-time employment in a secondary school, so that they can complete the practical requirements more readily. However, they will be permitted to complete the practical requirements on a part-time or voluntary attachment to a secondary school.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course will be offered online through external enrolment. Interaction between student and lecturer will occur via bulletin board, teleconference and telephone. Regional study centre groups will be established where feasible.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
