Introduction


This course provides an introduction to basic principles of language teaching and the systems of language. Students take units in Language Studies, Teaching English as a Second Language (where the emphasis is on practical aspects of language teaching and learning), East Asian Sociolinguistics, and World Englishes.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


A relevant bachelors degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applicants for recognition of prior learing are assessed on an individual basis. Under certain circumstances up to two units will be granted to applicants holding the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

Duration and Availability


This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study, with a first semester intake only.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
