Double Degree in Asian Studies and Environmental Biology

Introduction


This double degree in Asian Studies and Environmental Biology is designed to provide students with the core components of the Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) together with a Bachelor of Science (Biology) which includes substantial language and area studies components. As such it equips biology graduates with a high level of asian literacy enabling them to take advantage of the growing range of employment opportunities in this rapidly growing and environmentally diverse and vulnerable region. On completion of the program students will graduate with both Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) and Bachelor of Science (Environmental Biology).

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites


At least one TEE science subject.

Specific Requirements


STAT elements considered are E and V and Q.

Note


Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning


Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability


The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available in the external mode of study.

Course Organisation


Students undertake both the Asian Studies and Environmental Biology major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition


Graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the Australian Institute of Biology and the Environment Institute of Australia. Full membership becomes possible for graduates with honours or pass degrees after three or four years of professional practice respectively.

Additional Course Expenses


Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
