Introduction
This course aims to provide participants with the means to improve their teaching skills and other competencies associated with the establishment and management of quality learning environments for tertiary students in face-to-face and online learning environments. It will assist to better prepare, deliver and assess teaching and by doing so, improve the overall quality of teaching and learning. The course combines both theoretical and pedagogical aspects and has a focus on application of knowledge to specific teaching-learning situations.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A degree in a relevant discipline or professional experience in a tertiary teaching role or professional experience in the facilitation of the learning of others: for example nurse educators, training and development consultants, defence force instructors.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study. Units are offered through a variety of flexible and open learning modes.
Course Organisation
Participants should complete the three units Adult Learning and Assessment 521, Teaching in a Tertiary Setting 525 and Course Design, Delivery and Evaluation 522, prior to undertaking the final unit Improving Practice through Action Learning and Research525.
Professional Recognition
The Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching is considered an advanced preparation for teaching in a tertiary setting and, as such, is seen as advantageous by university employers. Articulation with other award programs is decided on a case-by-case basis.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
