Syllabus: | Energy expenditure, energy requirements, body composition analysis, protein quality, turnover and requirements, nutritional basis of chronic diseases like non-insulin dependant diabetes mellitus, lipoprotein metabolism and cardiovascular disease, weight control and athletic performance, cellular and animal models in nutrition research. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Demonstrated an understanding of energy, protein and fat metabolism and their interaction. Demonstrated an understanding of the role of nutrition in special circumstances including undernutrition, obesity, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, type 2 diabetes and athletic performance. Executed nutrition experiments at the cellular, animal and human level. |
