Syllabus:

Specialised topics - interpreters, implants, nursing caries, disabled patients, overview of prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontal surgery. Gerodontology - needs, physiological, psychological, medical, oral health, treatment considerations. Community dentistry - dental services demand, supply. Employment and professional practice - practice management, patient rights, ethics, employment, registration, insurance, relevant Acts, associations, continuing education.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated an understanding of the requirements for, and issues affecting, dental hygiene practice. Demonstrated an understanding of dental management of older adults and persons with special needs. Demonstrated an understanding of the roles and interrelationships of the dental specialties. Demonstrated knowledge of specific patient care procedures.
