Syllabus:

International legislation controlling drug products - drug distribution systems. Introduction to Australian legislation and the role of the Commonwealth and State Departments of Health. Pharmaceutical practice - definition of practice, professionalism, code of ethics, literature resources for practice. Dispensing of prescriptions - quality of medicines, consumer medication information, drug utilisation review and social aspects of pharmacy practice.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have developed a basic understanding of the role of the pharmacist in professional practice and drug distribution.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Assessment Tests 15%. Examinations 65%. Term Assignments 20%. In order to pass this unit, it is essential for students to achieve at least 45% in the examination. This is by grade/mark assessment.
