Syllabus:

Designed to provide students with the broad range of skills necessary to complete comprehensive psychological assessments with individuals across all age ranges. Students will be taught to integrate a number of assessment approaches including clinical assessment interviews, functional analysis and evaluation of psychological tests. These techniques will be taught with an emphasis on helping to solve individual problems within the general medical, legal, school and organisational contexts.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Integrate a number of assessment strategies in the completion of comprehensive psychological assessments. Evaluate the appropriateness of tests for use with specific populations. Understand relevant issues in assessment including test use with minority groups, actuarial versus clinical judgement, limitations of assessment and the appropriate use of computer assisted assessment. Understand the development, psychometric properties, assets and limitations of commonly used assessment strategies. Administer, score and interpret the most frequently used tests with a particular emphasis on the WAIS-III/WISC-III. Integrate test results into a useful, focused, problem-oriented report. Present assessment findings verbally in a concise and useful manner.
