Area: | Department of Applied Geology |
Credits: | 25.0 |
Contact Hours: | 3.0 |
Lecture: | 1 x 3 Hours Weekly |
Syllabus: | Coastal geomorphology, classification of coasts, geological factors influencing coastline development, beach profiles, dynamics of the coastal zone. Physical and environmental factors in relation to coastal sediment movement, sedimentation patterns in estuaries and bays, influence of coastal structures on sedimentation. |
|
Unit Outcomes: | The coastal zone is a rapidly changing interface between the land and the sea, where much of the world's population lives. This course will provide an understanding of coastal processes and landforms, sediment transport and coastal dynamics. At the conclusion of the course students should have an understanding of threats from a variety of natural and anthropogenics, such as climate or sea level change, and the natural dynamics of shoreline movement. |
