Syllabus: | Provides the theoretical framework to develop appropriate research skills to enable the student to locate their practice within the large context of cultural theory. Comprises of a series of workshops, seminars, field trips, dealing with issues surrounding contemporary visual arts research. It is concerned with the formulation of ideas and frameworks to assist the student with the development of their own research and project work. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Discussed and critically examined current theoretical issues pertaining to their own practice as artists. Developed formal models of theoretical and critical inquiry appropriate to the student'spractice as an artist. A basic knowledge of research practices employed in the visual arts. Identified pertinent areas of theoretical speculation that are apposite to their practice as an artist. Critically reflected on their work in relation to the broader field of visual culture. |
