Syllabus: | Clinical manifestations, pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of - diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolaemia, thyroid disorders and other common disorders of the endocrine system. Cardiac disorders - hypertension, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias and ischaemic heart disease. Psychotic and mood disorders. Skin disorders and eye problems. Gastrointestinal disorders including liver disease. Diagnosis and management of neurological disorders. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated an understanding of the pathophysiology of specific disease states and their management and be able to discuss factors important in selecting drug therapy for these conditions. Developed familiarity with factors that require monitoring in a patient to ensure optimal drug therapy in selected disease states. Developed the ability to counsel patients on relevant aspects of their drug therapy. Developed the ability to apply pharmacokinetic principles to the solution of individual drug use problems and can advise on dosage adjustment needed for drugs in selected disease states. |
