Syllabus:

Mechanisms and interpretation of diagnostic and monitoring tests performed in laboratories for patients under medical care. Systems approach in the evaluation of laboratory tests. Cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, haematological and neurological disorders, immunological disorders and infectious diseases. Drug levels in biological fluids and tissues. Drugs affecting laboratory tests and implications in medical treatments.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated the ability to interpret diagnostic and monitoring tests performed on patients under medical care. Developed an understanding of laboratory procedures and the validity and reliability of test results. Developed an appreciation of the role and limitations of laboratory tests.
