Syllabus: | The geography of rural Australia. The nature of Australian rural land use - agriculture, mining and tourism. The impact of technological and structural change in relation to international developments. Land degradation and conservation. The role of government. Australian rural society, rural institutions and settlement patterns. Social issues of rural Australia - the adoption and consequences of technological and structural change. Data collection and analysis, plus a major research paper. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have- Gained knowledge and understanding of the nature of land use activities in rural Australia. An appreciation of the nature and consequences of change in rural Australia. Further developed skills in the gathering, analysis and representation of geographic information. Developed skills in being able to articulate a point of view, and produced a major report. |
