Syllabus: | Consideration of issues including, defining folklore, the relationship between folklore and other aspects of culture and society, folklore and 'truth', monogenesis and polygenesis, the uses and misuses to which folklore may be put, among others. These questions are of considerable interest to folklorists an many are also relevant to other disciplines, especially history, cultural studies, literature, linguistics and anthropology. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students - Will know foundation concepts of folklore in relation to such issues as inventing traditions, tourisms, heritage and folk life, who owns folklore. Will know threats to childhood and children's play and write a detailed study of one or more of these topics, Demonstrated understanding of the issues involved and their significance or the study of folklore and folk life. |
