Syllabus: | Systems - data information, information system and information flow, different categories of IS, including MIS, DSS, ESS, OAS, EIS and computer-based IS, distributed IS and data communications. Systems analysis - methods of analysis, phase of analysis and design. Systems design and development - design techniques, focused on systems life-cycle (six - phase model) and prototyping, representations of IS (logical flow diagrams, structure charts, data dictionaries), topdown v. bottom-up development, project management and team planning, documentation, end-user evaluation models, systems maintenance. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Create solutions to information problems. Demonstrate an awareness of the processes involved in the design and implementation of computer-based information systems. Explain how software and hardware are acquired. Developed and tested in systems development. Identify and describe areas of application for information systems in the business and wider communities. Demonstrate an awareness of the social and organisational consequences of information systems. |
