Syllabus:

The evolution of land and planning law in the United Kingdom and its relationship to the origins of planning legislation in Western Australia. The principal statutes affecting the operation of planning and the administrative structure of jurisdiction. Critical perspectives on planning legislation and the potential for reform.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Placed Planning law in an overall context with environmental law. Placed environmental planning in an overall context with land law and land tenure. Studied the existing law of Western Australia relevant to planning, and it's roots in early United Kingdom environmental planning law. Considered other areas of law to the extent that they are relevant to environmental planning law and planning practice in Western Australia.
