Syllabus:

Foundation in programming skills (for those interested in the field of engineering and computer science) that can be applied in their own fields. Provides basic knowlege of computer programing using the object oriented programming language, Java. Familiarity with the Blue J programing environment and designing small object oriented software will be gained.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this units students will have an ability to - Know and understand structured and object oriented concepts. Design algorithms / pseudo - code. Design and implement small object oriented software. Understand, analyse and formulate a solution to a given problem. Apply programing knowledge and skills in science and engineering. Work co-operatively in groups to achieve common goals.

Unit Texts:

No prescribed texts. Lecturer notes are available in the Foundation Program Common Folder under the name IT063. Students will have to print copies of the lecture notes and bring them to the lecture.
 

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Final exam 50%. Lab Report 20%. Test (1) 15%. Test (2) 15%. This is by grade/mark assessment. In order to pass this unit, there must be 90% participation in lectures and laboratory sessions. A score of 40% in the final exam must be achieved. A score of at least 50% in marks must be achieved. All Lab reports must be submitted.
