Syllabus:

Introduction to systems concepts. Epistemological mode of 'systems' contrast with ontological mode. Organisational context of Information requirements analysis. Problems and issues in analysing user information needs. The systems development and Information requirements process. Traditional and contemporary approaches to information systems requirements determination.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Understand systems concepts. Differentiate between ontological and epistemological notions. Develop Information Requirements (IR) from a Case Study using Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). Appreciate that the process of developing IR is a process of enquiry, learning and critical reflection. Use SSM for undertaking Information Analysis and Information Systems Development.
