Syllabus: | Elasticity and the structure of solids. Shear forces and Poisson's Ratio. Fluid flow. Thermal radiation, Planck theory. The nucleus, radioactivity. Compton effect. Photoelectric effect. Radiation, fission. Equivalent circuits. Capacitive and inductivecircuits and their phase relationships with reference to electrical and EM surveying. Phasor diagrams. Resonant circuits. Series and parallel circuits. 'j' notation and calculations in LCR circuits. Filtering and field applications. Transients in LR, CR circuits, AC measurements and field surveys. |

Unit Outcomes: | Acquisition of knowledge about important physical processes in solids, liquids and gases with the emphasis on naturally occurring phenomena. Solid understanding of passive electrical phenomena and how to model these processes. |
