Syllabus: | Introduction to sensors and transducers, analogue and digital instruments and measurement concepts, A/D and D/A conversions, virtual instrumentation using LabView. Introduction to programmable logic, supervisory data acquisition using RTUs, design examples of real time applications using RS-232 and Multi-channel data-loggers and various instrumentation techniques. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will - Appreciate how remote monitoring systems operate. Understand the role of computers and digital systems in real time systems and industry. Understand the industrial and economic significance of remote monitoring system. Achieve a basic understanding of the principles and engineering involved in measurements, sensors and transducers. Be able to apply the principle of "appropriate technology" when considering automation and remote monitoring systems for specific cases. |
