Syllabus:

How we learn in science, the nature of science. Note-taking and note-making. Measurement in science; units and uncertainties. Writing/communication in science. Lab work and lab reports. Solving physics/ science problems. Studying for exams; Exam techniques.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will be able to - make the most of lectures (taking notes, listening, questioning). Make effective use of their textbook (pre-reading, making notes). Make effective use of the library. Demonstrate study techniques and organise a home study program. Monitor their own learning. Demonstrate Problem-solving strategies. Write laboratory reports. Perform basic error analysis. Prepare for examinations and successful examination techniques.

To successfully complete the unit you must submit at least 75% of the required work. This work must be of a satisfactory standard. Required Work - Science explanations. Half-page summary. Uncertainty Analysis Problems. Numerical Assignment Problems. Review of Science Articles. Self monitoring and reflection form (SMARF). This is a pass/fail unit.
