Syllabus:

Research methods in area of specialisation, generation of ideas for research projects, the research process, literature review, identification of a workable research question, formulation of hypotheses, guiding questions and objectives, measurement validity and reliability, experimental control, identification of ethical issues, data management and quality control, oral and written preparation and presentation of research proposal.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Upon completion of this unit students will have - Evaluated in depth, the evidence based practice related to physiotherapy issues and the statistical procedures related to research projects. Developed computer competencies using the relevant statistical packages. Evaluated ethical issues and applied these issues to a specific research proposal, and discussed research methodologies in specific areas of physiotherapy. Critically reviewed the literature relating to the research question and research methodology and formulated aims, objectives and hypotheses or guiding questions related to the specific research project. Examined commonly used assessment tools and procedures, including their reliability and validity and written and presented a specific research proposal.
