Syllabus: | Coastal geomorphology, classification of coasts, geological factors influencing coastline development, beach profiles, dynamics of the coastal zone. Physical and environmental factors in relation to coastal sediment movement, sedimentation patterns in estuaries and bays, influence of coastal structures on sedimentation, coastal problems and management. |

Unit Outcomes: | Upon completion of this unit students will have - Gained an overview and understanding of geological systems and processes influencing the evolution of the coastal zone and of coastal landforms and their origin. Gained a knowledge of the key physical processes driving the sediment transport system in the coastal zone, on seasonal, annual, and longer time scales. Gained understanding of some of the approaches adopted in the management of coastal problems. |
