Syllabus: | Population health. Definitions of health, disease and disability from a global and Australian perspective. Natural history of disease, global burden of disease, social determinants of health and illness. Risk factors and causation. Health inequalities within and between countries, Indigenous health, high risk groups, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, ethics and health. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Described the fundamental concepts of health and illness. Explained the impact of social factors on health. Linked concepts of causation to differential burdens of disease at the Global and locallevel. Described the relationship between social factors and methods for the control and management of diseases and disabilities. Critiqued the relationship between health ethics and health inequalities. |
