Syllabus: | Bioethical principles, professional behaviour, medico-legal aspects, and regulatory bodies. Issues in mental health and psychosocial practice related to children and adolescents including - assessment, planning, interventions, evaluation, health promotion and other approaches. Theories and processes facilitating change to enhance child and adolescent occupational function. Individual counselling skills. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Analysed ethical practice, based on bioethical principles, in relation to professional, regulatory, political, and legal issues and the implications for professional practice and policy development. Identified appropriate theoretical approaches to occupational therapy practice with children and adolescents in psychosocial and mental health settings and applied relevant mental health promotion interventions that reflects their development, environment, cultural and value systems. Identified, administered and interpreted assessments that reflect the occupational role demands of children and adolescents at risk or who have mental health problems. Evaluated the quality and service outcomes of occupational therapy programs for children and adolescents in psychosocial and mental health services. Demonstrated skills in individual counselling regarding occupational performance, and roles in a variety of contexts for children, adolescents and adults. |
