Syllabus:

Theories and principles of lifespan development from birth to death including gerontology. Stages and transitions throughout the life-cycle in sensory-motor, cognitive, emotional and social development. Application of developmental theories to the understanding of how skill acquisition enables engagement in occupational roles. Evaluation of development in the context of performance-environment-task.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Described and evaluated the major theoretical approaches to lifespan development. Described the major stages of human development through the lifespan in relation to the development of occupational roles. Investigated occupational performance in typically developing individuals and compared with the literature on development. Critically analysed the home environments of elderly people. Critically examined the sociocultural influences on occupational therapy service provision to older adults.
