Syllabus:

Structure, function and development of the human body with emphasis on the musculo-skeletal, sensory-motor and nervous systems. Normal anatomical, neurological and cognitive changes that occur from conception to death. Biomechanical and kinesiological principles applied to performance of daily occupations.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Identified anatomical features of the human body, surface anatomy, musculo-skeletal, nervous and organ systems and explained their relation to the main stages of foetal development. Explained normal human neuro-musculo-skeletal development and function. Explained central and peripheral nervous system structure and function including their role in speech, sensory-motor and cognitive-perceptual function. Applied biomechanical and kinesiological principles to analyse and measure normal movement of upper and lower limb activities used in daily occupations. Explained the integration of neural-control mechanisms and the musculo-skeletal system for the performance of daily occupations.
