Syllabus: | Outlines the plastination technique for cross sectional specimens and introduces students to the newer forms of plastination being developed for the study of cross sectional anatomy. Preparation and processing of anatomical material in these techniques to produce transparent body or organ slices. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Explained the methods used in cross sectional plastination techniques. Identified the technical requirements for successful plastination using these techniques to select, prosect and section a suitable specimen preparation for cross sectional plastination. Discussed issues related to the plastination of different types of specimens. Explored, discussed and solved problems which may occur during the plastination process. Described the detailed anatomy of the finished specimen for catalogue data entry. Evaluated the use of cross sectioned specimens for teaching cross sectional anatomy. Identified safety management issues related to laboratory procedures during plastination. |
