Syllabus: | Introduction of ac-dc and dc-ac power conversion, and quality parameters. Single and three phase uncontrolled and controlled rectification. Single phase square-wave and PWM (pulse with modulation) inverters. Current Source Inverters. Three phase voltage controlled and current controlled inverters. Modulation techniques. Harmonic effects in power systems. Power conditioning systems with PQ (power quality) issues. Simulation of power electronic circuits. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit the student will be able to - Understand the operation of rectifiers with single phase and three phase inputs. Understand the theory of various thyristor circuits and their controll. Understand basic concepts of pulse width modulated switching schemes applied to inverters. |
