Syllabus: | Environmental aspects of mining - codes, awards and best practice. Balancing economic efficiency and goals. Ethics, public policy and the environment - climate change, ODS, VOX, AMD, acidification and nutrification. Cost-Benefit analysis. Environmental reporting, technical factors and issues involved with mine planning, operation, blasting, rehabilitation and closure. Tailings disposal and waste recycling. Management of chemicals, oils, gases, and radioactive materials. Hazard and risk assessment, and management. Case studies and site visits. |
