Syllabus: | Introduction to powere electronic concepts, overview of dc - dc converters. Buck, boost, buck-boost, Cuk converters. Isolated converters, flyback (isolated buck-boost), buck derived forward converter. Half-bridge and full-bridge dc-dc converters. Characteristics of power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT's). Gate drive circuits and device protection. Design / choice of high frequency magnetic components. Simulation of power electronic circuits. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit, students will be able to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering for the analysis and design of power electronic converters. The focus is on the design principles of switching power supplies. |
