Syllabus:

An examination of the history, culture and religion of Central Asia, the role and place of Nomad society in the development of states and nations in Central Asia, interaction with Western Europe and Russia, Russia's colonial policy in the region, Kazakhstan and Eurasia, the Eurasian idea in the twenty first century.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- gained a comprehensive understanding of the developments in the former Soviet space. Obtained knowledge about Russia's role in international affairs, the growing role of Central Asia - with an emphasis on Kazakhstan, the regions relations with major powers, United Nations Organisations - problems of terrorism.
