Syllabus: | An overview of the ways digitisation is influencing library collections and services. Topics include - what is a digital library?, digital formats and collection development, cataloguing web-based resources (including current metadata standards), interoperability, open archives, digital reference, preservation, Australian digital library initiatives, social responsibility, the digital divide. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - An awareness of the variety of ways in which digital technology is transforming library services. Developed skills in the selection of items for digitalisation and in the use of the relevant technology to copy, store and record digital objects. An awareness of the manner in which digitisation of library collections is creating new relationships between libraries and their users and libraries and other information sectors. The ability to manage alibrary service in a manner which takes account of the digital information environment. |
