Syllabus:

Introduction to the effects of language disorder on the social, emotional and academic outcomes of school aged children. Service delivery, the role of language in learning and developing literacy and narrative skills.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Critically evaluated models of working with school aged children who have language learning difficulties. Compared and contrasted the language demands of the playground and classroom. Described and critically evaluated approaches to the assessment and treatment of disorders of literacy development in school aged children. Described and critically evaluated approaches to the assessment and treatment of disorders of narrative development in schoolaged children. Related findings from readings to professional practice and to theories of language.
