Syllabus:

A formal program and learning contract will be developed and negotiated for each practicum offered. The purpose and objectives of the preparatory workshops and actual tour will be outlined in this program.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will - Be able to analyse health care activities in both hospital and community settings. Demonstrate knowledge of local biomedical, social and cultural issues in health and illness. Analyse the application of innovative, low cost and effective primary health care interventions. Apply theoretical frameworks to understanding government, non-government and community based health facilities and projects. Compare and contrast health activities in the participant's country of origin with health activities in the study tour location. Critically reflect on specific activities undertaken during the field experience.

Draft of formal learning contract prior to departure 10%, Draft outline of reflective paper 10% and Final reflective paper (as outlined in the learning contract) on activities undertaken during the field experience 80%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
