Syllabus:

Introduction to ethics and bioethics. Bioethics and culturally relevant ethical practice. Moral reasoning and ethical theories, the Ethical Reasoning Model and the four principles. The meaning of commitment to ethics for the practitioner in internationalhealth, emerging arguments about the relationship between health, ethics and human rights. Current debates about the ethical conduct of research in developing countries. The ethical dimension of health equity and resource allocation.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have- Outlined current knowledge of bioethical principles. Identified culturally relevant ethical practice. Developed a logical argument based on ethical principles. Applied a framework for responding to ethical dilemmas. Outlined the meaning of commitment to ethics for the practitioner in international health. Debated emerging arguments about the relationship between health, ethics and human rights. Outlined current debates about the ethical conduct ofresearch in developing countries. Described the ethical dimensions of health equity and resource allocation.
