Syllabus: | Develop applied research skills that enable students to plan and undertake effective and culturally sensitive research in Aboriginal contexts - skills that give priority to Indigenous perspectives and that benefit Aboriginal people. Students will have anopportunity to practice and develop structured and unstructured interview, focus group, questionnaire, document analysis and observational data collection skills and techniques, and to consider the strengths and weaknesses of each. Data recording and analysis techniques will also be taught and practiced. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Understood the requirements for the conduct of effective and culturally sensitive research in Indigenous Australian contexts. Demonstrated the knowledge and understandings necessary to commence aprogram of field research. Become capable of negotiating entry into the field with the participants in their research. Developed the skill and understandings necessary to apply qualitative research techniques in Indigenous Australian contexts. |
