Syllabus:

Application of statistical methods for solving problems in agribusiness. Review principles and applications of various statistical techniques. Review of statistical concepts and methods including presentation of data calculating numerical measures of location and variability, sampling methods, design sample frame, data transformation. Explore the relationship between experimental design and analysis include variance (ANOVA), multivariable analysis of variance, non-parametric techniques, time series analysis, comparison of means (t-test), correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, factor analysis, discriminate analysis, and cluster analysis. Various techniques for analysing and presenting qualitative and quantitative data, as well as other numerical measures of univariate and multivariate statistics.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Summarised and presented data using graphical and tabular techniques. Differentiated sampling methods and select appropriate sampling method(s) for different problems and/or analytical situations. Designed sampling frame including sampling size selection. Performed data screening and data transformation. Identified various statistical techniques for analysing, summarising and presenting qualitative and quantitative data. Explained the theoreticalaspects of statistical techniques including analysis of variance (ANOVA), comparison of means, non-parametric techniques, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, and cluster analysis. Demonstrated skills and knowledge of principles and techniques learned in the unit through design, analysis and interpretation of a statistics project and other activities, perform statistical analysis using a statistical package such as SPSS and interpret their results. Written clear and concise reports and demonstrate capacity to work independently.
