Area: | Department of Petroleum Engineering |
Credits: | 25.0 |
Contact Hours: | 10.0 |
Tutorial: | 1 x 20 Hours 4 Weekly |
Laboratory: | 1 x 20 Hours 4 Weekly |
Syllabus: | Thermodynamic fundamentals, petroleum reservoir fluids, cubic equations of state, C7+ characterisation and lumping, viscosity measurements, sampling, P/T flash calculations, prediction of transport properties, PVT experiments, regression to experimental PVT data, evaluation of PVT reports, field experience, compositional variations due to gravity, phase equilibrium calculations for aqueous mixtures, gas hydrate phase equilibria and kinetics. |
|
Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - A comprehensive knowledge of hydrocarbon thermodynamics. Become familiar with the "equation of state" description of reservoir fluids. Understood how to use laboratory fluid data for the estimation of hydrocarbon volumes and to model the changes caused by reservoir pressure depletion while a field is being produced. Knowledge of the methods for performing PVT experiments, measuring viscosity and applying regression techniques to laboratory data. |
