Syllabus:

Introduction to the cultures of Asia with a particular emphasis on China, Indonesia, Japan and Korea. A critical perspective on youth cultures, popular cultures, religions, diversity and homogeneity, democracy and dissent, Asian views of Australia and Australian views of Asia.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the major strands of Asian cultures. An understanding of the major concepts necessary for an understanding of Asian cultures. The ability to apply these concepts to a criticalunderstanding of writings on Asian cultures. The ability to locate scholarly information on Asian studies from a range of printed and electronic sources.
