Syllabus: | Examination of a selection of the different varieties of English spoken throughout the world. TIncluding a selection of so-called native speaker English, for example British, Australian and so-called non-native varieties, for example Singaporean, Indigenous, Indian. The differences between varieties in terms of their pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and their socio-cultural roles are explored and analysed. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Understood that English has several different varieties. An understanding of how these varieties differ. An understanding of how varieties of English can reflect local cultures. An understandingof how English can be seen as an Asian language. |
